Vampire: The Masquerade — Coteries of New York

Accidental bloodsucker. That’s how I felt after finishing the game.

Tangled in a knot of events I had no way of understanding or really influencing. Facing interesting dilemmas only to realise I neither have much choice nor impact on the world around me. Or even on myself. Starting immersive quests only to have them end as if they were cut in half, without a satisfying resolution.

Even the art style has me second-guessing myself. The locations are atmospheric, but some of the characters’ portraits have nothing to do with their descriptions.

And the ending… Not to spoil, I will only say it left me disappointed. I mean, really. The plot twist felt unearned, but somehow managed to undermine the little satisfaction my character dragged out of her misadventures.

All that said, I don’t regret playing. The dark charm of the Sheriff and the clumsy humanity of the blood warlock did leave a spicy-sweet aftertaste and a few ideas for my next stories.
